Tough Times? New York Times To Charge For Premier Content

Yesterday, The New York Times announced that come September, they will begin charging for online access to the Op Ed section and other high-profile journalist content ("special voices"). The price for the privilege? $49.95/year.

As advertising dollars continue to flow towards the Internet, the newspaper industry has to do something to try to recapture that lost revenue. (Remember, The New York Times also bought About.com a few months ago.) But charging for "special voices?" With the glut of free content and emerging online voices, it should be interesting to see how this plays out.
